THQ Nordic has purchased the intellectual property rights to developer Novalogic's catalog according to a press release.

The deal to secure Novalogic's gaming catalog was closed today. The company's catalog largely includes military-themed titles such as the Delta Force first person shooter series or flight simulators focused around fighter jets such as F-16 Multirole Fighter. The deal also includes the rights to the Novalogic trademark so it seems that THQ Nordic has snapped up the company lock, stock, and barrel. The list of acquired game properties includes the Delta Force series, Comanche Series,  Armored Fist Series, Tachyon: The Fringe, and more.

Novalogic has been relatively inactive for some time. The last post made on their Facebook page was in 2014 and the most recent update for a game was announced on their site's front page in June 2015. The links to Novalogic's store forwards to a Steam store search for games by the developer. Their most recent title was the budget title Delta Force: Xtreme 2. As best as I can tell, the company has focused on maintaining their Novaworld Game Service - users on the service's forums report being able to still access their games. Efforts have been made to patch their games, and the developer has made a good chunk of their catalog available through Steam.

Novalogic founder and CEO John Garcia made the following statement in the press release regarding the purchase:

After 30 years of creating ground breaking Computer and Video Games we are proud to pass the baton to THQ Nordic. As individuals, they are enthusiastic gamers and as a company have shown the agility and acumen needed to propel our industry towards a much-needed reset. We are happy to see the franchises we created in such capable hands.
THQ Nordic has indicated that they are open to talking with developers about the potential for developing a sequel or remake of one of the classic military-themed games.

Quick Take

I fondly recall playing the original Delta Force at a LAN party in the mid-2000s. Although the engine is a bit dated, the game was an awful lot of fun. Unfortunately, I've never been able to try any of the sequels. Still, the success of military-themed films in the last few years - especially Zero Dark Thirty which shows a particular insight into the Delta Force - leads me to believe that we'll likely be seeing a new title from one of these franchises in the next few years. Fingers crossed that we'll get to see the right developer give us the opportunity to once again pretend to be the best of the bearded battle brothers in the American military.

Which of Novalogic's back catalog would you like to see THQ Nordic attempt to revive first? Do you think they will be able to do a good job of modernizing these classic titles? What is your favorite Novalogic game? Let us know in the comments below!
