Frostpunk 2 and This War of Mine developer 11 bit studios has announced that its upcoming sci-fi survival adventure The Alters has been delayed once again.
The game, which was originally set to arrive sometime in the first quarter of 2025, will now launch "later in the year", according to the developer. The press release announcing the delay is, rather cutely, worded as though it comes from the in-game Ally Corp rather than 11 bit itself.
As with many other game delays, 11 bit essentially says that The Alters is being pushed back in order to give developers more time to polish and refine the game, as well as to add extra "enhancements".
This isn't the first time The Alters has been delayed. The game was initially due to launch sometime in 2024, but it was delayed to 2025 in October last year in order to give then-current release Frostpunk 2 room to breathe (and to avoid a repeat of the negative reception to that game from some fans).
Unfortunately, 11 bit hasn't announced a new release date or even a more specific release window than just "this year", so it could be a little while before we get a better idea of when we'll be able to play this one.
If you're not familiar with The Alters, 11 bit describes it as an "emotional sci-fi game with a unique blend of survival, adventure, and base-building elements".
The game revolves around expedition survivor Jan Dolski, who must "create alternative versions of himself to escape a hostile planet" while tackling "personal turmoils" alongside his crew of, well, himself.
Each of your "alters" will have their own backstory and unique personality quirks, so it's up to you to survive while navigating the tricky task of interacting with multiple different versions of yourself.
The Alters launches sometime in 2025 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
