The popular action-adventure title Terraria recently received an update that is causing problems with its online multiplayer gameplay. Publisher 505 Games warned players yesterday that an update (version KTCP-20160531) for the Microsoft Xbox One version of the hit title broke online multiplayer, cautioning players to avoid using that mode for the time being. Terraria's local multiplayer and single play modes were unaffected by this update.
505 Games has stated that they are working on a fix for the problems caused by this update, but have not given a definitive timeline for when players should expect a fix to be available.
Terraria, released in 2011, has a spin-off title in the works by development team Re-logic. Terraria Otherworld is set for a 2016 release and is set in the same world as the original game, with a focus on more traditional role-playing mechanics such as skill trees. A concrete release date is not known at this time.

Quick Take
While it's very unfortunate that this happened for players who enjoy the online multiplayer, the fact that neither of the other two modes (as well as the desktop and any of the other console versions of the title) are affected bodes well for Terraria players. The fact that the game has an incredible amount of replayability also means that players will have plenty to do while waiting for the online issues to be patched. In an age of gaming where online multiplayer is pushed over solo or even local co-op play, it's refreshing to know that there are still titles where online issues don't necessarily have a major impact on the player's enjoyment.
