With Pokemon-like MMO Temtem revealing its roadmap showing player housing, trading spots, new islands and more throughout the year. Studio Crema took time to focus on their upcoming plans for monetization.
On their rough roadmap by Spring 2021 Studio Crema are aiming to have their 1.0 release. Included with that will be a microtransaction driven cosmetics store. In the post they write the following:
Temtem is an online game that requires monthly server costs, maintenance fees, and a growing and sustainable development team. Players are only required to pay once for the game, with no monthly fee required. In order to keep sustaining and growing Temtem, we’ll be introducing a purely cosmetic store in-game around 1.0 launch.
The post elaborate further on what would be included in the store. It will have several different options, such as players' clothing, housing furniture and emotes. They do explictly rule out any 'pay2win' or 'pay2skip' like access to better Temtem, stat or EXP boosting items, or anything else that could influence a players chances in battle.
That said, it appears that the cosmetic shop is not the end of the goals for microtansaction support. Temtem will be starting up their own seasonal Battle Passes as a way to keep players invested while rewarding them for their time and effort. The Temtem Battle Pass will be focused on cosmetics and introduce an addditional leveling system for a season. Like many of them, you will be able to get some of the cosmetics for free completing certain objectives, but the Temtem Battle Pass will also feature premium version with more cosmetics and other "non-P2W rewards".
Developer crema has emphasized that plans can change, and perhaps the approach to monetization will be part of that - for good or ill based on sales, expenses, and ongoing player feedback.
