Twitch and Bandai Namco Entertainment America Inc. have announced the Tekken World Tour. The two companies have partnered together to create an official esports league for Tekken 7. The tour will begin on June 16th and will give the fighting game community a chance to win a piece of the $200,000 prize pool.

Twitch will manage the Tekken 7 league operations, circuit events and content worldwide in addition to being the exclusive broadcasting platform for the league. The exclusive multi-year partnership between Bandai Namco and Twitch will get started with this year's Tekken World Tour at the the CEO Fighting Game Championships on June 16-18, 2017. Participants can register to compete on each partnered event’s registration pages.  The tour will hold a six month season until November 2017.

Twitch’s Program Manager Richard Thiher explains why the streaming service wanted to get involved with Tekken 7 saying,

The Fighting Game Community on Twitch features some of our platform’s most vibrant players and fans, with the TEKKEN World Tour created to celebrate their enthusiasm. We’ve also witnessed how the Fighting Game genre has grown from local tournaments in arcades and living rooms to global attractions filling convention centers and stadiums. TEKKEN has been a major franchise and influence during this evolution. Our partnership with BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment America for this new tournament series will help keep Fighting Games at the forefront of esports, while building toward a sustainable ecosystem for all of the players, fans, and organizers involved.
Competitors will be able to earn “Ranking Points” by competing in online, challenger and master events to qualify for the Regionals. The winner of the Evo Championship Series 2017 will automatically qualify for the tour's World Finals. Competitions will take place all around the world giving gamers from every region a chance to participate in this exciting new fighting game championship.

Eric Hartness, Vice President of Marketing at Bandai Namco Entertainment America Inc. elaborates on the partnership with Twitch and the new world tour commenting,

TEKKEN 7 is the latest chapter from one of BANDAI NAMCO’s marquee fighting game franchises and Twitch is home to the fighting game community; it made perfect sense for us to join forces and produce TEKKEN World Tour, a hard-hitting tournament series for our fans to enjoy. Our collective goal with the TEKKEN World Tour is to create an unparalleled competitive tournament experience and share the bone-crushing excitement of TEKKEN 7through Twitch’s social video platform so that TEKKEN fans around the world can enjoy and participate in the action.
