Today, during the Tekken World Tour 2022 finals, Tekken Project executive director Katsuhiro Harada and game director Kohei "Nakatsu" Ikeda appeared in a video to talk about Tekken 8 and its mechanics.

On top of the explanation, the video showcases plenty of gameplay for you to enjoy, providing examples of what the developers explain.

We start with an explanation of the keyword "aggressive" and of the vision behind the development of the game, We also hear that the developers want to make the battles more enjoyable for players in each attack, make it easier for people to understand key moments and momentum shifts within matches, and enhance each character's unique specialty and characteristics.

This was followed by a look at the Rage System, which has been changed from Tekken 7. Then we move on to a fully new system, the Recoverable Gauge, and the Heat system which is a core element of the game, and lastly the controller style.

You can watch the full video below.

Interestingly, a closed alpha test is coming to select locations around the world to gather feedback on the battle system of the game. It will be conducted on-site, in person. This will start at EVO Japan 2023 and the special website to register will open in February, but only players registered for the tournament will be admitted. More details on top of further locations will be shared at a later time.

Harada-san also announced that Fighting EX Layer developer Arika is helping with the development of Tekken 8

Last, but certainly not least, we get the reveal of Nina Williams as a returning character in the game.

Alongside the new Tekken 8 video, we also get the announcement of the Tekken World Tour 2023, which will still feature Tekken 7. It will be split into different Tournament Events awarding points that will be counted toward qualifying to compete in the Global Finals, which will be fully offline. The full tournament schedule has not been announced just yet, but you can watch a trailer below.

Tekken 8 will release on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC with no release window currently announced.
