Koei Tecmo hosted the 40th anniversary celebration of Kou Shibusawa, who announced with Team Ninja that they would be collaborating on a new action game based on the Romance of the Three Kingdoms. This isn't a formal announcement - that's coming in 2022 - so basically this is a "hey, this cool thing in progress exists!" type of announcement, and for a lot of fans this is definitely pretty cool.

For those who don't know, Kou Shibusawa (which is both a stage name for Youichi Erikawa the individual and a division in Koei Tecmo) has also worked on the Nobunaga's Ambition series, the Romance of the Three Kingdoms series and the Uncharted Waters series.

Together, both Kou Shibusawa and Team Ninja created Nioh, which was a pretty damn good game. Nioh 2 was also excellent, so basically anyone who is a fan of both Shibusawa and Team Ninja will undoubtedly be keeping a very close watch on whatever this game might turn out to be.

Team Ninja on their own is no slouch either. Their best known for their Ninja Gaiden series, and they also initially developed the Dead or Alive series, so they have decades of experience in creating excellent fighting games. For a fast-paced series that will probably be using the Romance of the Three Kingdoms series as a background, this sounds like a pretty good match.

As for expectations surrounding the title, fans should expect a good-to-great fast-paced action title. You'd hope and expect Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja to want that as well, but financially the game/IP is apparently expected to sell over five million copies and to also have "at least one game that will sell over two million copies every fiscal year", which sounds fairly ambitious.
