Tales of Arise, the latest game in Bandai Namco's long-running Tales series, has been delayed beyond 2020. No new launch window has been announced for the game as of yet.

Producer Yusuke Tomizawa, who's working on a new entry in the Tales series for the first time with Arise, says the development team has been moving "steadily forward" this year and that the team has overcome many challenges. Tomizawa says COVID-19 has affected Tales of Arise's development but that the team has been working remotely. Tales of Arise has been delayed in order to "achieve the quality and provide the gorgeous experience" that Bandai Namco envisions for the game.

When will Tales of Arise launch?

It's not clear when we'll be getting our hands on Tales of Arise now.

To put it simply, we don't know yet. Tomizawa says that the team will provide a new launch window update "once we have more details to share". Rather ominously, Tomizawa also says that although the determination of the dev team hasn't diminished, it's "always darkest before the dawn". Whether this means the game has run into significant development trouble is unclear, although it may more likely be referring to the disappointment and sadness many fans of the series will feel about having to wait longer for the game. We'll have to wait and see when Tomizawa and his team announce a new release window.

Tales of Arise is due for release sometime in the future on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Tomizawa envisions Arise as a new entry that will be appreciated by both fans of the series and newcomers. The dev team's aim was to provide a familiar but innovative gameplay experience while pushing the envelope when it comes to visuals and technical capabilities. Despite this drive for innovation, it's Tomizawa and the team's aim to maintain the "warm, friendly atmosphere" of the Tales series throughout Arise. Unfortunately, it looks like fans will have a little longer to wait before discovering whether this goal has been achieved.
