There have been a number of videogames that spawned from the Dungeons and Dragons pen and paper role playing game series. Some of those left a mark in the videogame history (like Baldur's Gate or Neverwinter Nights) while others came and went relatively unnoticed. This year, by the collaboration of  n-Space and Digital Extremes, Sword Coast Legends will have that chance as well.

Sword Coast Legends has some ambitious goals. One of the focus of the game is trying to create a Dungeons and Dragons experience as close as possible to its pen-and-paper equivalent in both single and multiplayer. The developer team includes some Bioware former employees, including Dan Tudge, Director of Dragon Age: Origins and now president of n-Space.

The most interesting feature that will be implemented in Sword Coast Legends, will be the "Dungeon Master mode". This multiplayer mode will allow up to 5 people (4 players and a Dungeon Master) to join up a game. After constructing the party, the players will navigate in the campaign map while the Dungeon Master will manipulate events in real time to tailor the experience around the player choices, making the playthrough the closest you can possibly get to playing a tabletop session of D&D. It's an ambitious goal considering a similar mode was attempted only in the original Neverwinter Nights and, even then, in a smaller scale of the one Sword Coast Legends aims to reach.

There's still no release date for the game aside of "2015". But you can already pre-order it on the official website. There are a multitude of pre-order options, including ones with physical goodies that will be shipped closer to the game launch.
