Paradox Interactive and Abstraction have announced Surviving Mars: Below & Beyond, which is the first premium expansion for the game since Green Planet back in 2019. The expansion will enhance colony management by allowing players to go underneath Mars' surface... and beyond. You'll do this by building underground bases, gathering rare resources. and mining asteroids. This follows the Tourism update that launched earlier this year.
“When we started planning out what was next for Surviving Mars, we really wanted to dive deep into the parts of the Red Planet we had not already explored. We know we had to come out swinging and Surviving Mars: Below & Beyond expands gameplay in a meaningful way,” says Magnus Lysell, Product Manager for Surviving Mars at Paradox Interactive. ”The possibilities are endless and we’re eager to continue exploring the Red Planet with our players.”
Surviving Mars: Below & Beyond will have new buildings, more resources, and a "cavernous world full of mysteries". If you aren't about that life you can also attach rocket-powered buildings to asteroids and mine them for exotic resources. However, if you don't leave for Mars before the asteroid leaves orbit you will lose both your new-found goodies and your colonists. As a survival city builder Surviving Mars will yet again test gaming's ability to find new ways to see if you can survive, or lead your people to survive, especially with these new additions.
If you want something to listen to while you collect resources and lose a few colonists, there's a Mars Lifestyle Radio Pack that will be available. It includes 16 original tracks from four different artists and will cost $3.99 USD / €3.99 EUR / £2.89 GBP on Steam, GOG, and Microsoft stores, and $4.99 USD / €3.99 EUR / £2.89 GBP for those playing on PlayStation.
Surviving Mars: Below & Beyond will launch on September 7 for $19.99 USD / €19.99 EUR / £15.49 GBP on Steam, GOG, Epic, Humble, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. If you're also in the market for another survival city builder, be sure to keep an eye on Night is Coming as well.
