Kakao Games has revealed Dysterra, a brand-new survival game developed by Reality MagiQ that challenges players to endure a ravaged earth in a fight for their lives.
Dysterra is far from the first game released by Reality MagiQ on Steam, but it looks like a pretty good improvement over its previous work. The developer's past releases focused on VR games with somewhat simpler graphics; now, this Korean game developer is aiming for something a little more ambitious.
What is Dysterra?
Dysterra is set on a ruined Earth in the far future, and it shows — much of the land is overgrown, nevermind all of the terrifying robots that are roaming the planet. There's some early media of the game (including a trailer), but we're going to have to piece together what this game is all about.
At first glance, Dysterra looks very much like a sci-fi Rust — you'll have to hunt for food and you'll be able to craft weapons and build a base. NPC enemies also seem to feature in this upcoming game and it looks like there will be a PvP aspect, too. Surrounding media and a press release also mentions "environmental calamaties;" presumably, things can go very badly if you're not adequately prepared.
"We are developing a golden balance that allows novice survivors to enjoy the game for a long time while maintaining the unique tension of survival games," the Dysterra developers said in a press release. "We want to create Dysterra as a survival game that many gamers can relate to and immerse in."
Player-created buildings are comprised of 16 pre-fabricated parts, but there are much more complex structures shown in the game; presumably, these handcrafted structures are places that players will have to explore on their own. It looks like road vehicles will also feature at the minimum, although it's unclear whether those will have to be salvaged, crafted, or both.
When is the Dysterra Release Date?
The Dysterra release date will be sometime in 2021. At the time of writing, the game's Steam Store page does not list a specific release date.
That said, you have a chance to play the game early. Reality MagiQ is recruiting Alpha testers from now until March 15, 2021. The developers recommend a pretty beefy computer if you want to play this game, though:
Dysterra Recommended System Requirements
- OS – Windows 10
- CPU – i7-9700 or Ryzen 5 3600
- Memory – 16GB RAM
- Graphics – RTX 2070 or RX 5700
- DirectX – DX12
- HDD – SSD 50GB
- Resolution – 1080p
This upcoming game does look pretty cool, but we won't know for sure how it turns out until it's had a little more time in the oven. For now, you can add Dysterra to your wishlist on Steam.
