The Waking demo is now available for players to try. This upcoming game from developer Jason Oda and publisher tinyBuild has you engaging in Souls-like combat in a nightmare while your character is trapped in a coma.
In Waking, you've unfortunately found yourself trapped in a coma. You must literally battle your demons in order to escape this nightmare and finally wake up in the real world. Players will fight a host of interesting creatures in combat somewhat similar to the Dark Souls franchise. Psychic powers are used both offensively and defensively; players can parry enemy attacks and then strategically counterattack.
What's more, this game will get deeply personal. Players are asked a series of questions that will be used to calibrate the game. These memories are then used as things that you'll encounter in the game, effectively being the weapons that you will use to fend off the demons beleaguering you and helping you move towards waking up. You'll engage in short bouts of meditation at the end of every quest, balancing out the intense action with a short, insightful recovery period.
Billed as a "[game] that will make you cry", the Waking demo has now been made available according to a news post on the game's Steam Community page. The demo should give you a nice look into a world that is planned to ultimately give players an estimated 20 hours of gameplay.
