THQ Nordic has a surprising announcement for strategy fans -- it's gone and made SuperPower 3, a stunning new follow up to its political strategy franchise on PC that previously had a major release all the way back in 2004.

There are all sorts of games that let you take over the world. Perhaps you want to become a campy evil genius and threaten the world with a superweapon. Or maybe you want a somewhat more even battle like in Humankind, a game that's promising to provide players with a pretty interesting endgame.

SuperPower 3, however, promises to be a somewhat different kind of game. This is truly a top-down management sim -- you operate from a map of the entire world, controlling policies and battling it out with the other nations of the world. Get hyped for this upcoming game with its new trailer!

It looks stunning, but most of the game is focused on menus where you lay out your strategy. A press release explains that you'll have to "take control of the economy, politics, diplomacy, social development, military strategy, and more." If you had a ton of fun with Democracy 4's launch late last year, then this might be the kind of game for you.

Mind, a lot of work goes into a game like this. It's not based on ancient empires like Civilization or Age of Empires -- this kind of game is set in the modern day. The developers used information from the CIA World Factbook, the U.N., and the U.S. Military to build out realistic simulations of modern nations, so I'd expect that they'll be doing much of the same for this upcoming release.

When is the SuperPower 3 Release Date?

Unfortunately, we don't yet know the SuperPower 3 release date. Today's announcement trailer simply makes it known that the game exists and is coming out at some point in the future, and the game's Steam Store page doesn't have a release date yet, either.

We probably won't have to wait too long to play this game, but you can experience its predecessor right now on the cheap: SuperPower 2 is on sale on Steam for just $0.99 or your regional equivalent, a staggering 90% discount. You can, of course, also add SuperPower 3 to your wishlist on Steam.

Are you excited for SuperPower 3? What's your favorite game that lets you play as a real-world nation? Let us know in the comments below!
