Super Meat Boy Forever, the endless runner sequel to the classic 2010 platformer, is facing a slight delay. Team Meat have stated that players should be able to play the game "not too far after."
Announced back in 2014 as a mobile-only version of the first game, Super Meat Boy Forever marks the second release by developer/publisher Team Meat (which was co-founded by Tommy Refenes and Edmund McMillen, who has since moved on.) The game will have Meat Boy and Bandage Girl running, jumping, and smacking their way through enemies to save their baby Nugget from Dr. Fetus. One of the more recent trailers, shown below, gave us a release date of April 2019 (except for Steam users, who'll get it a year later):
Earlier today, the Team Meat Twitter account made an announcement:
We're almost done, but not quite there yet. pic.twitter.com/vm7q10Xd0n
— Team Meat (@SuperMeatBoy) April 4, 2019
The post starts off with good news about the pace of the game's development. Super Meat Boy Forever delayed is the crux of the post, however, as they state that they will be missing the April 2019 window with their current pace. The announcement also touches upon the recent Anthem development controversy (bold added for emphasis):
We could have sacrificed our minds, bodies and social lives to make April 2019 but that's stupid. Team Meat isn’t owned by an Evil Asshat corporation that has say over what we do and how we do it. We are fortunate enough to have control over how we work and we choose not to run ourselves into the ground.
News of Super Meat Boy Forever's delay actually released during PAX East. Team Meat told attendees about the delay but "everyone we told was really cool about it." Their post reports that we'll have a new trailer soon with an official release date. For now, the release date is "after but not too far after April 2019." As for Steam users, you'll have to tack on an extra year onto that estimate as it is a timed exclusive for the Epic Games Store on PC.
With Super Meat Boy Forever delayed does that impact your interest in the game? Does the decision to launch it on the Epic Games Store? Let us know in the comments below!
