Today Nintendo and Illumination reached out with a press release to announce that the debut date of The Super Mario Bros. Movie has been changed.

Luckily, it's not a delay. The movie was supposed to launch in the United States on April 7, but will now hit the silver screens on April 5 alongside over 60 markets around the world. The reason for the change was not mentioned in the announcement.

While you wait, you can check out the recent commercial that will bring back memories for fans of the old and beloved The Super Mario Bros. Super Show.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie was officially announced in 2018 and is co-produced by Shigeru Miyamoto himself. Animated by Illumination, it's based on a script by Matthew Fogel and it stars Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Sebastian Maniscalco as Foreman Spike, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.

The traditional English voice of Mario Charles Martinet is also going to appear with cameos, albeit his role has not been detailed further.

While it will debut in the US and many more markets on April 5, 2023, Japanese fans will have to wait until April 28. Other regions and countries have their own release dates.

The film is based on the Super Mario Bros. franchise, which is arguably Nintendo's most popular video game series. It debuted in 1985 with Super Mario Bros and includes a metric ton of video games on a series of Nintendo platforms, which culminated in 2021 with Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury for Nintendo Switch. Semi-recently, Nintendo Has started letting other developers take a stab at it, resulting in Ubisoft's Mario + Rabbids franchise, albeit we recently learned that sales of the second game, Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope released late 2022, were disappointing
