A Sunset Overdrive Ratchet & Clank crossover has debuted via a series of tweets, revealing the Ryno 8 weapon for Rift Apart and getting fans hyped about a possible Sunset Overdrive remaster or sequel.

There's just a few days to go before the launch of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and the promotional campaigns are really picking up speed. Today was a bit of a strange one, though — as documented on Reddit, a bunch of tweets bounced around representing major gaming franchises including Uncharted and Horizon Zero Dawn. The end result was the reveal of a new weapon for Ratchet & Clank, but there might be a little more to it than that.

What is the Sunset Overdrive Ratchet & Clank Crossover?

The Sunset Overdrive Ratchet & Clank crossover comes via the new Ryno 8 weapon revealed today in a tweet that capped off an energetic series of tweets that pass through a bunch of different game worlds. (Exploring other dimensions isn't all that unusual considering the theme of Rift Apart and its portals, after all.)

The Ryno 8 is a weapon that can open up a portal and drop objects from other dimensions on enemies. These will typically be smaller things, but we do get to see a giant machine from Horizon Zero Dawn land on a somewhat larger enemy and turn it into a pancake.

Sunset Overdrive is one of the other franchises that contributed content for this special gun and it looks like it might have been hinted at a little early: the iconic character Fizzie made a sneak appearance in the "Franchise Evolution" trailer for Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart as spotted by @JoeyParabellum on Twitter. Check out the trailer at 0:21 and you'll see Fizzy standing behind a box for a Ratchet & Clank game.

As best as we can tell, the appearance of Fizzie also happens to be the only other game franchise highlighted in a trailer that was released 3 days ago — combine this with a recent rumor and we might have something special brewing here.

Is Sunset Overdrive Remastered Coming, and What is the Sunset Apocalypse Game?

The Ratchet & Clank crossover is pretty cool, but it looks like only Fizzie from Sunset Overdrive made an appearance in a recent trailer. Add to that the fact that the Sunset Overdrive and Fizzie Twitter accounts sprang back to life for this silly little Twitter event and fans have gotten started speculating.

What really gets my noggin' joggin', however, is a submission at the GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit from over a month ago that purported to reveal the contents of the next PlayStation State of Play showcase. Some of the items on the list are easily predictable, but what's particularly surprising is the inclusion of Sunset Overdrive Refreshed Edition (a presumed remaster) and Sunset Apocalypse (a new game).

As always, you should take these rumors with a grain of salt — sadly, there's no hard evidence that either of these Sunset Overdrive games are on the way or that the base game is getting a PlayStation release. Still, Sunset Overdrive seemed like it got a little more time in the spotlight — a particularly strange choice for a franchise whose last release was a PC port on Steam all the way back in 2018. With Insomniac owning the franchise though, and now belonging to Sony, they may be wanting to bring the IP to their new home. If these rumors bear out, we may very well see Sunset Overdrive on PlayStation sooner than you may think.
