Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League

Sefton Hill, the Creative Director and co-founder of Rocksteady Games, has announced that there's been a Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League delay until next year. Hill called the Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League delay as "frustrating, but that time is going into making the best game we can." That sounds a lot like Shigeru Miyamoto's famous “a delayed game is eventually good, a bad game is bad forever" quote, which is something I can get behind, even if it's disappointing we'll have to wait a year until we get to kill the Justice League.

What is Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League?

For those who aren't in the know, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is a genre-bending action-adventure title that's set in an open world based upon Metropolis. There are four different DC Super-Villains that players will be able to control: Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Captain Boomerang, and King Shark. You may remember some of these characters from the Suicide Squad movies that we've had over the past few years, and like those characters, these takes on the IP have villains recruited by the government to do things no one else will do.

To ensure compliance with a band of characters known for backstabbing, betraying, and villainy though, they all have suicide devices implanted in them, controlled by an organization typically led by Amanda Waller. To survive, and to get reduced sentences, the Suicide Squad has to complete its mission - this time to take down a brainwashed Justice League. That means you'll be going up against characters like Superman, and other unannounced members of the Justice League, with a set of characters whose primary 'power' tends to be that they are unshackled from general morality or beliefs. Players will be able to play solo, or play with up to three friends in co-op. Each character has their own unique moveset that will be used to explore Metropolis and take down the Justice League.

With explosives in their heads that are programmed to go off at the first sign of defiance, the Suicide Squad must complete their assigned mission: to take down the Justice League that has been brainwashed by Brainiac. Players will also be able to play alone-with AI controlling the other characters-or in co-op with up to four players in total. Each character will have their own unique moveset that can be used to freely explore Metropolis.

What is the new Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League release date?

Rocksteady has said that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League release date will now be targeting Spring 2023, which means it will come out after fellow WB published Gotham Knights which will be focused on the bat family and releases in September.

Quick Take:

While it sucks we won't be seeing Rocksteady's latest for another year, the unfortunate Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League delay means that hopefully we'll be receiving a game that lives up to the extremely high standards that Rocksteady has set for itself over the years. This game is extremely ambitious-which is why they need more time-but their Arkham series was groundbreaking as well back in the day. I'm confident that eventually we'll receive a good title, but it's going to take a while... and probably a lot of patches.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will launch on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in Spring 2023. For more information, stay tuned to TechRaptor.
