Beat 'em up fans were excited to see the Streets of Rage 4 release date appear on the Nintendo eShop recently, but there's some bad news: it was listed by mistake.
Let's get some important clarification out of the way: no, this was not a release date leak like we've seen every now and again. Several gaming websites reported that the release date for Streets of Rage 4 was to be April 23, 2020, according to the Nintendo eShop listing. However, that date has since been changed to the much vaguer "2020".
What happened? A press release from the publisher stated "that date is not final or confirmed by publisher and co-developer Dotemu." We can't say for sure how this mistake was made, but it seems like an unfortunate error.
When is the Streets of Rage 4 Release Date?
Okay then — if Streets of Rage 4 isn't coming out on April 23, 2020, then when is it releasing on the Nintendo Switch?
Unfortunately, the press release from the publisher declined to provide a specific release date. They did note that it's coming "soon" and that it's expected to launch sometime in 2020, but that's all we know for now.
It's Not All Bad News
While the erroneous release date is disappointed to some, it's not all bad news today — we got to get a look at some new goodies coming to the game.
Take a look at the Streets of Rage 4 Retro Reveal trailer to see some of this cool stuff in action:
These retro pixel designs will be available for players who prefer a slightly older look. Of course, they'll still be able to pick from the newer hand-drawn characters with their super-smooth animations.
You'll be able to play as these pixelized pugilists when Streets of Rage 4 launches sometime in 2020 at a price of $24.99 or your regional equivalent. For now, you can add it to your wishlist on Steam.
