In the upcoming Streets of Rage 4 DLC, Publisher and co-developer Dotemu, along with fellow co-developers Lizardcube and Guard Crush Games, have announced there will be a Survival Mode that will have players beating down "endless waves of foes" while earning perks. It's called Mr. X Nightmare, and it will be launching on July 15 for 7.99 on the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PC via Steam, GOG, and the Windows Store.
In the aforementioned Streets of Rage 4 Survival Mode, players will be able to play through two session variations: Random, which will keep fights unpredictable through generated runs, and Weekly, which is a series of pre-determined gauntlets that are generated each week.
Each completed level will offer two randomized perks to choose from, which will then grant stackable bonuses for you to power up your fighters until they're defeated. You'll also unlock new moves permanently for use across all of Streets of Rage 4's modes, which will give your fighters a more personal feeling as you get used to the new movesets. Progress made will also unlock new weapons within the survival mode and the training mode, as well as gallery content. There are leaderboards too if you want to brag about how good you are, which while expected is also welcome. There's even a trailer you can check out.
As for the new fighters, you'll be able to play as Estel Aguirre, Max Thunder, and Shiva. There will be a separate free update coming with the DLC that will give a training mode, color palette options, a New Mania+ difficulty, and other refinements and balancing changes.
There will also be a physical Streets of Rage 4 cartridge that will include the Mr. X. Nightmare content and is available for preorder today through Merge Games. It will launch on September 28, 2021.
If all of this sounds fantastic to you, you may want to check Streets of Rage 4 out at a discount, so be sure to go to check it out during the Steam sale. It's 40% off right now at $14.99, so if you've been waiting for a good sale now's your chance.
