Today Capcom released a new video of the upcoming fighting game Street Fighter 6, focusing entirely on music.
The video showcases the theme music track of the recently-revealed new character Marisa, aptly titled "Pankration."
In case you're not familiar with the term, Pankration was a contact sport in ancient Greece introduced in the Olympic Games in 648 BC (albeit many historians believe that the sport itself is much more ancient), mixing boxing and grappling moves. It then became popular in Rome in Imperial times, where it was called Pancratium.
You can check out the track below. It certainly echoes the origin of its title in part of the music.
Marisa is a fully new character who never appeared in the Street Fighter series before. She hails from Italy, and she's described as follows:
"An up-and-coming jewelry designer from Italy who claims ancestry to ancient Greek warriors. As a child, she was inspired by a vision of the Colosseum in its prime. Today, she seeks glory with a smile—and an eye for beauty."
She's the tallest female character who ever appeared in a Street Fighter game, standing at a whopping 6'8''. While that's not nearly as tall as Lady Dimitrescu, Capcom certainly seems to be setting a trend here. Funnily, she's actually afraid of heights. Of course, her 269 lbs also make her the heaviest female character in the series. Better avoid pissing her off.
Street Fighter 6 is releasing on June 2, 2023. This time around, it's returning to its multiplatform nature, as it'll launch for PlayStation 5,PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam. It'll also come to the arcades via Taito, albeit that version won't probably leave Japan.
