The upcoming Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life remake will allow you to choose between male, female, and non-binary protagonists. You'll also be able to approach any of the eligible romance options in the village no matter which of those you pick.
So the Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life remake has non-binary options?
It sure does. Announced during yesterday's Nintendo Direct presentation, the Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life remake is hitting Nintendo Switch in summer next year. Unlike the original game, which launched for GameCube and PS2 back in 2003, the remake will allow you to choose whether you want to be a boy, a girl, or a non-binary farmer just living your best life.
As well as choosing your gender identity in this way, the romance options of Forgotten Valley will all be open to you regardless of what choice you made. Over on the game's official website, developer Marvelous says "all eligible marriage candidates" will be available for romance, so you can "truly be who you want to be". Good for you, Marvelous!
What do we know about Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life?
The Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life remake is a reimagined version of the 2003 life sim classic, which you might remember as Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life. A dispute between developer Natsume and publisher Marvelous led to the original Harvest Moon series being renamed to Story of Seasons, while Harvest Moon also continues as its own franchise, rather confusingly.
This remake will largely feature the same life sim and farming gameplay as the 2003 original, but with overhauled visuals and gameplay mechanics. Like in the original, you'll be tasked with tending to your farm, meeting the locals in Forgotten Valley, and raising livestock, among other things. You can also have a child with your romantic partner, and they'll grow up to chase a career based on how you've raised them.
You'll be able to pick up the Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life remake on Switch when it launches in summer next year. Between this, Harvestella, and a number of other farming life sim-style games coming out soon, you're really spoiled for choice if you want to live an idyllic rural life on Switch in 2023.
