Steven Universe

One of the games announced when Apple Arcade first launched, Steven Universe: Unleash the Light has finally hit the service.

A turn-based RPG based on the popular cartoon, Steven Universe: Unleash the Light puts you in the role of Steven and several of his friends as they have to save the world from a pair of new gems named Demantoid and Pyrope. Along the way, they'll team up with each other to fight. You can raise character's friendships and eventually fuse them into one single super-powered character, or keep them separate so they can act independently. You can customize your characters, giving them fun costumes and special abilities, while also changing their battle positions for various advantages. In addition to this, all of the voice actors from the show reprise their roles for the game, along with actress Christine Baranski making a special guest appearance, reprising her role of Hessonite from Steven Universe: Save the Light. All told, it sounds like a good experience for fans of the show.

This is the third Steven Universe RPG to launch since the show debuted in 2013. The first, released on iOS and Android devices in 2015, was Steven Universe: Attack the Light. The game was highly praised and also promoted with a very weird Seven Universe/Uncle Grandpa crossover episode. It was followed by 2017's Steven Universe: Save the Light, which was originally released as a PlayStation 4 exclusive before slowly making its way elsewhere. The game, while also positively received, was noted for being quite glitchy.

Steven Universe: Unleash the Light is currently available exclusively on Apple Arcade, which costs $4.99 a month.
