The Steam Spring Cleaning Event 2020 is here! If you've been looking for a reason to play through your Steam backlog, this special little event will serve as a reminder to check out some games you haven't touched in a while along with some new acquisitions that you haven't touched just yet!

If you're unfamiliar with this kind of event, "Spring Cleaning" is a newer venture from Valve. Any PC gamer who has been around for a while has likely built up a heck of a backlog, and this event is intended to remedy that.

Unfortunately, this is not a sale; while there are some games on sale, the only thing you can really get as a result of this event is a cool badge for your Steam profile. Still, it may be a good idea to check it out!

How Does the Steam Spring Cleaning Event 2020 Work?

Much like last year's event, the whole purpose of the Steam Spring Cleaning Event is to get you to play some games that either haven't yet played or haven't played in a while. The event accomplishes this task by suggesting up to 21 games spread across seven categories and tracked via a special progress page.

What are the Steam Spring Cleaning Event 2020 categories?

  • Play Next - A list of three games the Steam algorithm things you'd love to check out.
  • My Lucky Day - Another group of three games, chosen at random from your account
  • Old Flame - Steam suggests three games to check out that you used to play a lot but haven't touched in a while.
  • Time Machine - A reminder of the first, second, and third games that you've ever owned on your Steam account.
  • Trusted [Human] Friend - Play one of three games recommended b your friends!
  • Remote Play Together - A list of three games that have Remote Play Together functionality.
  • New Addition - Suggestions on three of your newly-acquired games that the Steam algorithm thinks you'll love.

Complete enough of these tasks and you'll score a special badge as your reward for the Steam Spring Cleaning Event 2020!

While Spring Cleaning isn't a sale per se, it should be noted that the Steam Spring Sale 2020 is likely just around the corner; it usually arrives sometime around late May 2020. If you've been missing out on PC gaming lately, this event is a great way to get back to it! You can read more about the event and check out your progress via the Steam Community announcement.
