Steam Award Winners Announced - Biggest Names Clean Up

Published: December 31, 2016 10:54 PM /

The Steam Awards have been this year's Steam Winter sale's gimmick, offering cards for voting in addition to the normal set available for going through your discovery queue. The event has been of interest to many since it began back in November with Valve asking the community to send in their nominees and asking for suggestions for the final award as part of the Steam Autumn sale. Then the Winter Sale came, and Valve revealed who had made it through and announced four different awards to fill that last spot, which all got voted on December 30th.

Of course, it wouldn't be a Valve community driven event without some drama coming up, and this time it wasn't by the community directly. Instead of some of the cases we've seen, like teams arranging who would win each day for one event or other shenanigans over the years, the controversy this time came from developer Studio Wildcard who wrote they would add a Sheep to their game if they won the Best Use of Farm Animals award. In less than a day, they changed tack, announcing instead that they would release it in the next update regardless of how the award turned out.

Still, as we are here on New Year's Eve with less than 48 hours remaining in the Steam Winter Sale, we have the winners of the various awards here for you, and we'll run them down. If you want to try them out, you can find them at a bargain with numerous winter sales going on. That being said, it's not likely you'll need to add many of these to your library if you have a sizable list of PC Games as the winners almost inevitably went to the biggest name.
