Welcome to this week's State of the Game. Today we'll be covering games released on Steam between the 25th of September and the 1st of October this year.

In terms of sheer volume, no week comes close to this one as we had a staggering 327 games released on Steam during this week. At the beginning of this year the average number of games released in any week was around 140 but, after the past 3 months, that number is now much closer to 200. This also comes in second this year for most players in the week's releases, beaten only by the week Ark: Survival Evolved left Early Access.

Total War: Warhammer II is this week's most played game by almost every metric, only losing out on average playtime to Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony. Those numbers aren't just opening week hype either with Total War: Warhammer II maintaining those concurrent user stats even today. That, of course, has come at the cost of its predecessor's player base which has been in a slow decline ever since its release. Still, it's unlikely that the developer is unhappy with that and the future addition of the Mortal Empires campaign combining the two will make it a non-issue.

Cuphead comes in a somewhat distant second but has since gone on to double its concurrent users over the last two weeks. It probably won't get much higher than that as it appears to have reached steady state now with the numbers remaining steady for the past week. Interestingly, whilst it was second in most regions it lost out to Danganronpa V3 in both Asia and the Middle East.

Casting an eye over the trending section we can see it's mostly sales this week although the original Fallout made an appearance thanks to it being free for 24 hours. If you missed out on that it's since received a permanent 50% price cut to just $9.99.
