Welcome to this week's State of the Game! Today we'll be covering some interesting stats for all the Steam releases from the 23rd to the 29th of October this year. This week brought us another rare sight with both Assassin's Creed: Origins and Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus releasing this week. Just like the last time two large titles released in the same week both games most certainly have different audiences. This is likely why the publishers weren't too worried about the release dates being so close together. Let's take a closer look at how their stats compare.

Assassin's Creed: Origins doubled nearly all of Wolfenstein II's top-level stats with the only exception being its review score (which was still 16% higher). Unlike most AAA games it hasn't experienced the typical 2 week slump, maintaining about 2/3rds of its initial player base. This also coincides with a steady increase in average recent play time up from an average of 10 hours in the first week to almost 20 today. Suffice to say Assassin's Creed: Origins is certainly a hit among the Steam community.

Wolfenstein II, by comparison, hasn't fared as well with its concurrent player base down to about 20% of what it was at launch. It did manage to take out the top spot in the Oceania region, most likely due to the strong showing from Australia which accounted for 5% of its total play time globally. Some of this can be attributed to the performance issues it has seen on PC since release although most of these appear to have been patched since.

Guns of Icarus Online was this week's top trending game thanks to a key giveaway on the Humble Store. That boost was, as it almost always is with key giveaways, short-lived reaching a peak of 4700 players before starting to dwindle rapidly. It's still well above its previous average as of writing but there's no denying that it's continuing its downward trend.
