Welcome to this week's State of the Game! Today we'll be covering some statistics for all the games released on Steam between the 14th and 20th of August this year. Whilst the number of releases was well above average again the average player counts did not reflect that at all. Similar to last week this is likely due to this week's big release not hitting the numbers that otherwise might have been expected of it.

Agents of Mayhem was met with a lukewarm reception, both critically and from the Steam gaming community. In the first 5 days of its release, it shed over half of its concurrent player base, something that typically doesn't happen for at least 2 weeks. Currently, it sits at around 10% of its opening numbers. Agents of Mayhem is a well-played game for those who like it however with your average player racking up a good 11 hours in it during the opening week, getting around a third of all achievements in that time.

The regional section is dominated by a couple Early Access titles that have gone 1.0 week which skew the results significantly. This is because the rankings are based on total hours played, not hours played during release week. For games actually released in this week that number is the same however for Early Access titles many of the hours are typically played before the game is "released".

Minecraft: Story Mode - Season 2 takes out the top trending spot this week with the release of Episode 2. Telltale's episodic games feature frequently in the trending section and it's almost always due to content updates rather than sales. So Minecraft: Story Mode - Season 2 showing up here isn't too surprising.

Conan Exiles also makes an appearance in the trending section thanks to a content update. This update appears to be particularly popular among its players with the stated 3x player boost persisting some 2+ weeks after its initial release. Similar to episodic games content released for Early Access games like Conan Exiles are always tied to boosts in player numbers, although they're not normally as enduring as this one is.
