Welcome to this week's State of the Game! Today we'll be covering all the games released on Steam between the 9th and 15th of October this year. Continuing the roller-coaster of up and down weeks that we've had over the past couple months this week brings with it vastly improved stats over last week. This is predominately off the back of this week's releases containing not one, but two major releases from large publishers which is quite a rare occurrence. With that in mind let's take a look at this week's top releases.

Middle Earth: Shadow of War the sequel to 2014's sleeper hit Shadow of Mordor takes the top spot this week. On all of the quantitative stats, the game has done exceptionally well however concerns around the game's microtransaction system have kept its overall review score much lower than you'd otherwise expect. One curious point is that the game is quite popular in China, surprising given the fact that its predecessor didn't enjoy the same kind of reception, and showing the growing Chinese market for premium games.

The Evil Within 2 also released this week and also managed quite a good showing. Whilst its stats might not hit the dizzying heights that Shadow of War did it still managed to achieve numbers that aren't out of the ordinary for a game of that type. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard for comparison managed very similar figures in its opening week and didn't have to compete with any other major release. Indeed taking a deeper look at the stats and it looks like neither of this week's top 2 releases were adversely affected by each other.

Deceit's latest content patch has done wonders for the game's player base, rocketing it up significantly. That upward trend has continued as well, pushing the game's average concurrent player count to over 6,500 for the past week alone. Indeed that's the best its ever done for as long as I've been recording data, an impressive feat for any game!
