Welcome to this week's State of the Game! Today we'll be diving into some stats for games that released on Steam between the 8th and 14th of January this year. At this point we're still close to the end of the holiday season and that means most new releases still don't garner as much attention as they might do otherwise. Overall the stats are improving with this week's releases garnering a much larger audience than the 2 weeks before it. However we still haven't see a big release to kick start this year yet, something which typically doesn't happen until the end of January. However a couple games from this week's list have gone on to do quite well for themselves so let's take a closer look at them.
Life is Feudal: MMO is this week's most played game, doubling the player count of its nearest competitor. It's gone from strength to strength since then and now averages some 3,500 players in game over the last week. The low user count shown here is mostly driven by the fact that it released late in the week although even for its first week it averaged around half the players that it has today. This is despite its continuing mixed review status too, which usually sees most games steadily lose their playerbase over time.
The other title to go on to do well this week is Tiger Knight a free to play action strategy game. Its numbers aren't as impressive as Life is Feudal: MMO, averaging only 500 or so, but that's just the numbers for the Steam version. The standalone version released late last year although was more regionally focused, predominantly on China (where the developer is based). The Steam release is a much more generalised, worldwide release although it's still relatively popular in China and South Korea.
