Starlink: Battle for Atlas Won't Need Toys To Play

At the Ubisoft E3 conference back in June, Ubisoft Toronto released a gameplay trailer for Starlink: Battle for Atlas. Our hands-on preview was enthusiastic, but it emphasized its Toys to Life experience as a problematic component that could obscure its massive potential. This is unlikely to be a minority opinion, and, perhaps as a response, the marketing team has launched a new campaign: Play The Way You Want.

Players will be able to mix and match every modular toy, from starship hulls and wings to pilots and weapons to customize their loadout, which can be observed instantly onscreen. Each module has its own characteristics and special abilities to help players fight against the Forgotten Legion.

It will also be possible to choose from both physical and digital editions. The Starter Pack will contain everything necessary to play the game. Players can customize the way they play by adding more physical toys or digital parts to their existing Starlink collection. Those who opt to purchase the Digital Edition can also purchase a controller mount separately in order to play with the physical ships and accessories. It is also possible to play without toys, even after unlocking the digital version with a physical toy. Those will be available for seven days, which enables players to play on the go with the Nintendo Switch. It is also possible to share the toys with friends, which will also be available on-screen for seven days.

Both on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, the Starter Pack will include the base game, a controller mount, the Zenith Starship (including a modular hull and two Armor wings), the Mason Rana Pilot, the Shredder Weapon, the Flamethrower Weapon, the Frost Barrage Weapon.  All of which will set you back $74.99.

The Nintendo Switch Starter Park will include the base game, a controller mount, the Arwing toy (including a modular hull and two wings with laser cannon weapons and charged shot), the Fox McCloud pilot, as well as the three same weapons available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It also includes digital versions of the Zenith Starship, and an exclusive Star Fox mission add-on content. The pack will also sell for $74.99.

The Digital Edition includes the base game, 4 starships (Zenith, Neptune, Pulse, and Lance), 6 pilots (Mason, Judge, Chase, Hunter, Levi, and Razor), 12 weapons (Flamethrower, Frost Barrage, Shredder, Levitator, Volcano, Imploder, Iron Fist, Freeze Ray MK. 2, Crusher, Shredder MK. 2, Shockwave, and Gauss Gun MK. 2). The Nintendo Switch version includes all the above plus digital versions of the Arwing starship and Fox McCloud pilot. This will cost $59.99. For the same price, it is also possible to acquire the Digital Collection 1 Pack, which includes the Nadir starships, another lineup of pilots and another variety of weapons.

The Digital Deluxe Edition includes all of the standard Digital edition, plus the Nadir starship, three other pilots (Shaid, Eli, and Kharl), and three other weapons (Hailstorm, and Meteor MK. 2). Players can also purchase additional starships, pilots, and weapons separately, both as physical packs or DLC.

Starlink: Battle for Atlas will be available for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on October 16.
