Although Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic 2 came out in the Windows environment 2005, I don't think a lot of people were expecting that the game would get a massive update 10 years later. But luckily, that is the case, as Aspyr in partnership with Disney/Lucas have made Star Wars: KOTR II available on Max and Linux for the first time officially. But it's not only that, as the update includes a bunch of new content for the game that our Steam Curator Group indicates is: "A rushed, yet good sequel. Areas aren't as memorable as KOTOR 1 & the ending is a bit weak, but with the restored content mod, it's a gem. Worth a buy."
The game gets a bunch of new features, highlighted by resolution support for 4K and 5K monitors, as well as native widescreen resolution support. The game now has built in control support for the Xbox 360, Xbox One and Playstation 3/4 controllers, and comes with Steam Workshop support as well. In particular (as mentioned above), the team over at Aspyr worked with the creators of the Restored Content mod to have their famous "TSLRCM" up for this new update. In addition, 37 achievements have been added for achievement hunters out there, as well as Steam Cloud saves. Finally, a Force Speed Effects option has been added in the options menu of the game. A significant update for a game that has been a classic for fans of the Star Wars franchise for a long while.
In the steam discussion announcement, Aspyr-Blair, a developer with Aspyr, indicated why they ended up doing the update in question: "Why did we do this? Because we LOVE KOTR 2. But let's all remember what love truly is....Love is making a shot to the knees of a target 120 kilometers away using an Aratech sniper rifle with a tri-light scope." Love for the HK-47 character aside, it's also been indicated via the announcement page in question that Aspyr is working with GOG and Disney to bring the update over to GOG as well (citing a timeline of after GamesCom).
How interested are you in an update for a game as old with this, attempting to fix some of the old issues with controllers and resolution? Will this cause you to pick up the game or play it again? Let us know in the comments below!
