According to Jason Schreier of Bloomberg, there's now an indefinite Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake delay. Originally, the game was supposed to release at the end of 2022, but now Schreier says a "more realistic target" would be 2025, which represents a pretty hefty delay.

Why was the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake delayed?

While we haven't yet had an official announcement, Schreier says that the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake delay coincided with the game's art director and design director being fired earlier this month. The two developers were Brad Prince, the former design director, and Jason Minor, the former art director. They're both ex-Bioware employees, with Prince a designer for the original Knights of the Old Republic while Minor worked on Star Wars: The Old Republic and Star Wars Galaxies. When the KotOR remake was first announced, both Prince and Minor were described as "invaluable" to the project.

After Prince and Minor were fired, developers at Aspyr Media being told that the game is on pause and looking for "new contracts and development opportunities". Presumably, Aspyr Media needs the cash they'd get from these projects to funnel back into their Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake, which was only announced less than a year ago after years of rumors. Regardless, it's hard to tell exactly what's going on right now, and it's tough to say what the future holds for the highly anticipated remake.

Old Republic
The original game is still available if you're sick of waiting.

Before its indefinite delay, the remake was to be the first modern Star Wars game released outside of Electronic Arts Inc. Before that, EA had the exclusive rights to the franchise, which are set to expire in 2023. This has led to other Star Wars games being announced like Star Wars Eclipse, which is also going to take a long time to release, if it ever releases at all.

At least we might get a Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic movie in the meantime, eh? We'll have to see, but fingers crossed. If it's done right, the movie might be a better overall experience than whatever Aspyr Media was trying to cook up.

Thanks, Bloomberg.
