Aspyr has announced a remaster of Star Wars Episode I: Jedi Power Battles, a classic side-scrolling action game from the PlayStation era.

Per a press release, the remaster will give the original game a new coat of paint, just like you'd expect. You can also look forward to revamped controls, so Jedi Power Battles should play a little more cleanly than its original incarnation did.

All thirteen of the game's characters will be unlocked from the start if you pick up the remaster, as will all of the levels. The remaster will also include the Versus and Training modes, which were introduced in later versions of Jedi Power Battles.

If you've got fond memories of enjoying this one as a kid alongside a friend, you'll be pleased to hear the remaster will include two-player couch co-op, so maybe you can call up that same friend and ask if they're up for a trip down memory lane.

This is just the latest in a long line of remasters developed by Aspyr, many of which are old-school Star Wars games. Aspyr is the studio responsible for this year's Star Wars: Bounty Hunter remaster, as well as remasters of the original Battlefront titles (although they probably wished they weren't at release).

You may also recognize Aspyr's name from the recent remasters of the first three Tomb Raider games, as well as the upcoming Soul Reaver remasters. Put simply, Aspyr is clearly the company you call if you're looking to remaster a classic from the PS1 era. Well, them or Nightdive.

Originally, the upcoming Knights of the Old Republic remake was being worked on by Aspyr, but the studio was apparently replaced by Space Marine 2 developer Saber Interactive in 2022.

In any case, Aspyr's Star Wars Episode I: Jedi Power Battles remaster will be released for PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch on January 23rd.
