Bigger, but does that mean better?

A recent talk by Electronic Arts' Chief Financial Officer Blake Jorgensen at the NASDAQ Investor Program Conference in London revealed some of the things the company has planned for 2017. In this talk, Jorgensen confirmed that there won't be a new Battlefield game next year to follow up the success of this year's Battlefield 1.

“We won’t have another Battlefield back for a couple of years, next year we’ll have Battlefront, the Star Wars game.”

Star Wars Battlefront was a financial success with over 14 million units sold despite the game's polarizing lack of content, with player numbers on PC dwindling dramatically soon after the game's release.

Jorgensen stated that they have been listening to the feedback obtained from players playing the game, and says that they're trying to address every issue in the second game, mainly in the content department.

There seems to be no waning in excitement around the Star Wars world. We’ve got another movie coming up obviously in a few weeks, and people are very excited about it. So we’re looking forward to bringing to the table next year a much bigger, much more exciting Battlefront for consumers.

The acknowledgment of the game's flaws makes it a little easier to cautiously anticipate the next game in the franchise, which wasn't necessarily bad. The visual representation and the sound design have been lauded by fans and critics alike and most people agree that it got the vibe of the original movies just right, it's lack of content really shined through after the novelty wears off.

The first of the rebooted series was recently re-released as the Star Wars Battlefront Ultimate Edition at a reduced price, with its final DLC being tied into Rogue One and releasing next month. It is available right now for under $40 on Amazon for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One (Affiliate).

Quick Take

I think I'm all for a second go at a Star Wars Battlefront game. The most recent one was a beautifully crafted game that sacrificed a lot of depth for visual spectacle above all else. Let's hope they get it right the second time around.

I've been playing games since I was just barely able to walk so I might as well write about them.
