Star Citizen, the multiplayer space trading and combat simulation that has been in development for the past nine years, has brought back the Legatus Pack. Those who've already spent $1,000 contributing to the game's development can buy a pack containing just about every ship released so far for a $40,000 price tag.

The news about the new Legatus Pack dropped last week in a Reddit post showing off the pack in the exclusive store for Chairman's Club members, a tier for backers who've funded the game's development by buying at least $1,000 of content. Star Citizen primarily gets its funding through selling ships and other in-game items to its players. Even so, quite a few people in the Reddit post coming to grips at spending so much for what the pack might have to offer. Redditor NeverLookBothWays did a nod to the ASPCA commercials by saying that "For the price of a Legatus ship pack, you can feed and shelter a developer for 6-8 months. Please, think of the developers." Another one, Tkj_DimiTheTwin, said that "I could get that pack, or the better alternative would be to buy 363.67 Buccaneers."

It's worth noting that the Legatus Pack itself isn't a new thing. The Legatus Pack was first introduced to Star Citizen in 2018, where it went for $27,000. At the time, it wound up getting mixed reactions from its community, with both die-hard fans and those who think Star Citizen is a scam both reinforcing their beliefs. Eric Kieron Davis, the head of Cloud Imperium' Los Angeles studio, told Polygon that "We were responding to what the community asked for. We have some passionate supporters that are not looking at Star Citizen as your typical game purchase/transaction but rather a dream project they want to see happen."
