Stainless Games and Green Man Gaming Publishing have announced a brand new IP. ShockRods is a vehicular arena combat game promising fast-paced action, overpowered weaponry and general chaos.

A press release given by Stainless and Green Man Gaming describes ShockRods as "the thrill of arena shooters coupled with insanely mobile vehicles". The game will allow for 12 players per game, with team and free-for-all modes on offer. The titular ShockRods will be customizable vehicles with nitro boosts and double jumps. Don't take our word for it - check out the teaser trailer below.

The trailer shows off some of ShockRods' brightly-colored aesthetic and frantic gameplay. Green Man Gaming says ShockRods is "inspired by the classic 'kill or be killed' arena shooter greats of yesteryear", so it'll offer the same sort of high-octane over-the-top action as games like Quake and Unreal. Stainless says the mechanics will be easy to learn but hard to master, and that players should expect to use their surroundings as much as they use their weaponry to survive.

For those who know Stainless Games' history, the announcement of ShockRods shouldn't come as too much of a surprise. The studio is responsible for classic car cruncher Carmageddon, as well as...erm...some of the official Magic: The Gathering video game adaptations. It's safe to say we're firmly in the territory of the former here rather than the latter. Green Man Gaming Publishing managing director David Clark says the Stainless team is "incredibly talented", and that partnering with them on this release is "truly fantastic".

If you're looking to get your hands on ShockRods, you can do so in London, UK at EGX Rezzed between April 4th-6th. The game is currently a PC Early Access title and its official Steam page has a release slated for "summer 2019". We'll have more info for you when we get it.
