Are you wondering how many episodes Final Fantasy VII Remake will consist of? So is Square Enix, apparently.

According to Kotaku's Jason Schreier, Final Fantasy VII Remake director Yoshinori Kitase doesn't know how many games the project will span. Kitase says the first game (or episode, depending on how you want to look at it) will focus on Midgar. Beyond that, the studio "can't say anything more about the future games". Square Enix says that the first Final Fantasy VII Remake game will be the length of an entire numbered Final Fantasy game, so you'll still be getting your money's worth out of this one.

Schreier says he's played Final Fantasy VII Remake and that it's shaping up pretty well. Combat-wise, the game is more strategic than Kingdom Hearts III or Final Fantasy XV. You won't just be able to mash buttons to achieve success. Instead, you'll need to use your characters' abilities and swap between them regularly to be victorious in battle. There's also much more dialogue and many more character moments this time around. Where characters in the original Final Fantasy VII might swap a couple of lines, in the remake they'll have extended conversations. Schreier describes Final Fantasy VII Remake as "fleshed-out" where the original was an outline. Sounds promising.

Final Fantasy VII Remake will launch for PlayStation 4 on March 3rd, 2020. It'll be an episodic release, with the first "episode" covering the entirety of the original game's Midgar section. We have no idea when we'll get our hands on the second episode. Yoshinori Kitase says the studio is actively working on the second episode while it finishes the first one. Hopefully, we won't have to wait another four years to get to Kalm Town, although he did warn that it won't be too much less.

Are you excited to explore Midgar? Which parts of Final Fantasy VII should be in the second episode? How many parts do you think it will be? Let us know in the comments below!
