Dutch game developer Blue Box Game Studios has revealed Abandoned, an upcoming "cinematic survival sim" that's making its way to the PS5 later in 2021.

Abandoned tells the tale of Jason Longfield, a man who has awoken in a forest with no memory of how he got there. The middle of the woods is not exactly the best place to be when you've lost all of your memories, and Jason will soon find himself in a fight for survival.

This upcoming game will definitely have a cinematic focus, but that's not to say that there won't be some kind of combat. Based on what we've seen so far, it looks like Jason will be armed with a handgun and able to protect himself in some capacity. That's not to say you'll be able to run and gun like it's Call of Duty, though!

"If Jason is out of breath after sprinting (or is afraid), his firing accuracy will suffer," read a PlayStation Blog post from Hasan Kahraman, Game Director at Blue Box Game Studios. "Unlike action shooter titles, firing weapons in Abandoned will be realistically slow. You will need to be tactical in order to survive."

"We want you to be nervous come each and every enemy encounter. To be aware that a wrong move can be the deciding factor between surviving a combat scenario or not."

When is the Abandoned Release Date?

The Abandoned release date has not been decided just yet, although Blue Box Game Studios says that it should arrive on PS5 sometime in the fourth quarter of 2021. That means it could make its way to Sony's flagship console as early as October 2021.

Unfortunately, there's not much else in the way of details. We're treated to some scenes of a forest with little recognizable detail, so this is all we're going to learn about this game for now until a gameplay trailer arrives sometime in the near future. For now, you can learn more about the developer at its official website.

What do you think of the look of Abandoned? Does the initial premise intrigue you or would you need to see more before getting hyped about this game? Let us know in the comments below!
