The SpongeBob Squarepants: Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated release date has been revealed — for the Nintendo Switch, at least.
First announced back in June of 2019, SpongeBob Squarepants: Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated is a remaster of The SpongeBob Squarepants: Battle for Bikini Bottom. If you've never had the good fortune to play it, you can get an idea for what it's like by watching this 12 minutes of gameplay footage released by IGN late last summer.
Battle for Bikini Bottom is a particularly special game for some and regarded as a cult classic for several reasons. First and foremost is that it's a Banjo-Kazooie-style 3D platformer with all sorts of collectibles and colorful scenery. It's also (rather unsurprisingly) packed chock-full of characters and references to the beloved cartoon.
What makes this game particularly special, though, is the general opinion that it's pretty darn good and probably the best game ever made from the SpongeBob Squarepants IP. Good licensed games are rare, and good licensed games based on children's cartoons are even rarer, making this one a particular unicorn.
The remaster is going to feature all of the same gameplay from the original along with a new two-player horde mode than can be played either locally or over the Internet. There's also going to be some content cut from the original that will be restored like a boss fight against Robo Squidward. Now, we finally know when we'll be able to get our hands on this remastered game!

So, when will we be able to play this remastered classic? @Nitomatta on Twitter has highlighted an e-mail from Nintendo which lists the launch dates and launch windows for nearly two dozen games coming out for the Nintendo Switch in 2020 and SpongeBob is among them! The SpongeBob Squarepants: Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated release date for Nintendo Switch will be May 22, 2020.
Notably, the game's Steam Store page hasn't yet been updated to reflect this. The PC version may be coming out earlier than that, although I wouldn't be surprised if there was a simultaneous launch. You can look forward to revisiting SpongeBob and friends in just a few months. In the meantime, you can add the PC version of this game to your wishlist on Steam.
