The developers at 1047 have announced that Splitgate updates will be coming to an end, but the bad news is accompanied by some great news. The devs are now working on a new shooter game that is set in the Splitgate universe.
Splitgates upcoming update will sadly be its last, as the devs are going to be putting all of their focus and attention to their new project. Splitgate will be moving out of beta on September 15, 2022, and will no longer be updated once that launch has been initiated. In the upcoming final update, there will be new characters, infinite amounts of levels to reach, a new free battle pass, and new skins for players to collect.
The game originally launched on PC back in 2019, and caught the eye of millions of gamers, as the number of downloads skyrocket beyond the devs belief. In 2021, the game was launched onto other platforms such as Xbox and PlayStation, where it only grew exponentially from there and hit over 18 million total downloads. At one point, the servers shut down due to so many players being active and online at once. This abrupt popularity made Splitgate one of the most successful games over the last few years, and though the devs are sad to see the game take on its final chapter, they are more than thrilled to bring something even better to their fans.
1047 is home to some of the world's most talented developers, artists, and creators, and will continue to add more and more to their team to ensure that this next project is a big one. The new game doesn't have a title as of yet, but we do know it is being built from the ground up using Unreal Engine 5. The creator of Splitgate and CEO of 1047 Games, Ian Proulx, went on to state this in regards to the new project,
"After careful consideration and much deliberation the 1047 team has determined that in order to build the game that fans deserve – and to build it in a way that isn’t trying to retrofit our existing game – we are turning our attention away from iterative, smaller updates and going all-in to focus on a new game in the Splitgate universe which will present revolutionary, not just evolutionary, changes to the gameplay."
The developers do go on to state that though this venture for the original Splitgate has reached the end of the road, there will still be support for those who continue to play, and the devs will ensure that fans continue to get that heartwarming and helpful experience they have come to know over the years.
