As part of Ubisoft celebrating their 30th anniversary, Ubisoft is releasing 7 games for free over the course of 7 months. Last month we got 2003's Prince of Persia for free, and this month you can get your hands on this stealth-action classic at no additional cost.
Splinter Cell has grown to a household name over the years and has spawned numerous sequels since its debut in 2002. While the original game definitely shows its age, it is still a very enjoyable game with plenty of suspense as you complete various missions as the covert operative with the gravelly voice of Michael Ironside. Players will have to use the shadows in a variety of missions spanning the globe while you covertly prevent World War III from happening.
If you want to take advantage of this offer you can go to the Ubi30 page on the Ubisoft Club website. All you need to do is tick the box, and Splinter Cell is yours to keep forever. Remember that Prince of Persia is no longer available to get for free, and the Splinter Cell offer will also disappear after a month. Unfortunately, this offer is only valid for players on the PC and needs you to have an active uPlay account in order to download the game.
Quick Take
This was one of my first PC games and now that it's free for anyone to download and try it out, I no longer have an excuse to not dive back in there and replay Splinter Cell. While the later games are definitely mechanically superior and higher-paced, I remembered that I enjoyed the slow, deliberate gameplay of the first game a lot.
Are you looking forward to playing Splinter Cell again? Will this convince you to give it a go if you haven't played it before? Let us know in the comments!
