The online gaming community was buffed by Spellbreak years ago, but now it will be coming to an end. The devs behind the game have released a statement saying that the game will be shutting down its servers sometime next year. Though it appears that this is the end of this series, they'll be putting their resources as they seek community support to plan new projects.
The Spellbreak Shutdown
It was in 2018 that Proletariat, Inc. launched Spellbreak for online play. It found an audience across various platforms including PC and multiple consoles during its run. Unfortunately, despite the community that was built from the game, Spellbreak will not be continuing. The team behind the game has announced that they will be shutting down the game's servers in early 2023. Though an exact date has not been revealed, the shutdown is currently scheduled with no plans as yet to continue Spellbreak in other forms.
The height of battle royale games came in the mid to late 2010s with Spellbreak aiming to be a part of it. The title stood out with competitive gameplay that revolved around players taking on the role of battlemages. As they explored fantastical ruined battlefields, they could come across runes and glyphs in order to collect magic spells. Based on the elements they collected, players gained access to different forms of attacks such as balls of Fire and bolts of Lightning. The most prominent mechanic was the player's ability to combine different spells to make combo attacks such as mixing Fire with Wind in order to make blazing tornadoes to sweep across the field.
Although Spellbreak had a solid community that earned much appreciation from the dev team, it did not have the numbers to maintain its service. As a result, 2023 will mark the end of the game's servers.
