Sony Unveils the PlayStation Experience 2016 Lineup

Sony has unveiled their schedule for the 2016 PlayStation Experience.

The conference will take place on December 3rd and 4th in Anaheim, California, and will feature six panels and over 100 games at the show.

Three panels on Saturday remain unannounced, but the Sunday panels have already been scheduled. At 10 AM, Guerrilla Games will go in depth on the world and lore of Horizon: Zero Dawn, while at 12 noon, Colin Moriarty and Greg Miller of Kinda Funny Games will do a special live version of the PS I Love You XOXO Podcast.  The last panel of the day will feature Naughty Dog, Sony and members of the accessibility community to talk about Accessibility features for gamers, including those with disabilities.

The PlayStation Experience will also feature over 100 games for fans to play. The list is expansive, including big budget titles and smaller, indie games, but some of the major standouts include Gravity Rush 2, Horizon: Zero Dawn, Nioh, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, and The Last Guardian. PSVR games will also be attendance, including Batman: Arkham VR, Robinson: The Journey, and Star Wars Battlefront Rogue One: X-Wing VR Mission. Some crowd-funded games have also snuck into the showcase, including Masquerada: Song and Shadows, Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin and Yooka-Laylee. Sony is quick to stress that these are only the revealed games, and that there are unannounced ones that will be there too.

Tickets for the PlayStation Experience are still available and currently sell for $75.00 for the two-day pass, $45.00 for Saturday only, or $40.00 for Sunday.

The PlayStation Experience is an expo event sponsored by Sony that has been used by the company to reveal and advertise games for the PlayStation 4 since 2014. The events include panels and sneak peeks of several PlayStation only products, as well as exclusive demos for upcoming games for PlayStation systems.

Quick Take

There is a growing amount of smaller conventions now sponsored by the big companies, which lead to a lot more reveals throughout the year. Activision-Blizzard, Bethesda, Electronic Arts, Sony, and Nintendo seem to be content on doing their own thing and focusing on giving monthly updates or an in-depth demo for consumers as of late. That hands-on approach is optimistically a positive to me at least, although the danger there is living in a bubble regarding the press that is given out.
