Today Sony announced that a Vote To Play promotion would be coming to PS Plus members. The Vote To Play system will let PS Plus members vote on one of several PlayStation 4 games to be added to the next month's Instant Game Collection.

There isn't much info on exactly how it will work or how games up for vote will be decided, but Sony says more details will be revealed soon. The post on PlayStation.Blog states:

The game with the most votes will automatically be included in our future free game lineup for PlayStation Plus. If your pick didn’t make the lineup, don’t worry. In the first promotion, PlayStation Plus members can get the runner ups at a discount. We love to listen to our fans – and we’re super excited to launch this promotion.

Quick Take

This looks like a great idea, allowing PS Plus members a chance to decide on which games they want, but it could lead to games that aren't very well-known never getting a chance to be added to the Instant Game Collection. Games like the recent hit Rocket League would most likely be passed over for bigger games, since it was a complete unknown until it was added to July's PS Plus games selection. A good way to counter this would be to alternate between a line up of games to vote on that was all indies or all AAA games. They could also have theme months where all games are a certain genre or developer. It would also be great if they continue to discount the games that don't get voted into that month's Instant Game Collection.

Do you think this is a good idea or do you think the same types of games will continue to win the vote?
