September 9th, 1995 marks the release of the original Playstation in North America and Sony is currently celebrating the 20th anniversary of its release, and looking back on Playstation 2 right now. So naturally, Sony decided to bring games from their best-selling console, and bring them to their newer console. Starting tomorrow, and with a handful of fan favorites!

Gamers already knew that Playstation 2 games were coming to the Playstation 4, and after last night's leak about the emulation, we know a lot more. In the leaked video Sony noted that PS2 Classics and PS2-formatted discs are incompatible with the PS4 system, meaning that the games that are released will be made available for download via the Playstation Store.

Starting tomorrow, here are the first games that will be available on the Playstation Store to be downloaded and played on the Playstation 4 -

  • Dark Cloud — $14.99
  • Grand Theft Auto III — $14.99
  • Grand Theft Auto: Vice City — $14.99
  • Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas — $14.99
  • Rogue Galaxy — $14.99
  • The Mark of Kri — $14.99
  • Twisted Metal: Black — $9.99
  • War of the Monsters — $9.99
  • PaRappa the Rapper 2 (coming soon)
  • The King of Fighters 2000 (coming soon)

As you've come to expect from your Playstation 4, Playstation 2 titles will include the following features: up-rendered to 1080p graphics, Trophies, Share Play, Remote Play, Activity Feeds, and Second Screen support through the Playstation Vita and Playstation App.

If you're attending the Playstation experience this weekend, you'll be able to play all of the games above (except Grand Theft Auto III and Twisted Metal: Black) at the event, as well! Sony also notes that they're hard at work trying to release more PS2 games on PS4, so we're sure to see more and more of our favorites on the store very soon.

What do you think of the announcement? What games would you like to see brought to the Playstation 4?

Quick Take

I've been itching to play Dark Cloud again for a while now, and the ability to play it on my PS4 and Vita via Remote Play is going to be fantastic. It'll be good to see more great PS2 games released over time, as well.
