Detroit: Become Human is the next game in the works for Quantic Dream, the development studio behind PlayStation exclusives like Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls. Detroit was first revealed by Sony back in October of last year, and their E3 conference this year we got a brand new trailer for the game that showed off a gameplay scenario that you might find yourself in while playing the game. Allow me to dig deeper into what we saw.

Detroit Story Tree

The main protagonist that this trailer showed off is Connor, an android working in the city of Detroit. His role in the game seems to be that of negotiator/detective. In the situation presented to us, Connor is forced to negotiate with another android who is holding a human child hostage. This is where the gameplay starts to make its way into the game. Connor has many different ways that he could choose to negotiate with the other android, and Detroit: Become Human leaves all those choices up to the player. You can try lying to the criminal, you can give into his wishes, or you can go straight for the kill shot. And these are just a few of the routes you can take in handling the situation. Each decision can branch out in many different ways, allowing more opportunities to pop up, and your choices ultimately decide the end result. The android criminal might submit, he might fire back at you, he might kill his hostage, etc. Exploration, uncovering information, and making decisions are the key gameplay elements of Detroit: Become Human, much like the rest of Quantic Dream's games.

The trailer also gave us some insight on the game's story. It seems that relations between androids and humans is quite tense at the moment. The reason that the other android is holding the child hostage is that he feels tired of taking orders form humans. When the main protagonist, Connor, walks in to negotiate with the other android, the mother of the child being held hostage is disgusted by the fact that the police sent an android to negotiate for her daughter's life.

Despite this being the second time that Detroit: Become Human has been shown off by Sony, there is still no set release date for the game. The latest trailer didn't even give us a release window for the game. For now, all we really know is that Detroit: Become Human is a PlayStation 4 exclusive.
