The Sony E3 2016 conference began with theatric glory, as a full orchestra introduced the company's show, leading to a short and tearful statement on Orlando before gaming took center stage. What followed was a full gameplay look at the rumored new entry in the God of War franchise. Featured in this reveal featured Kratos in a fatherly role as he takes a young boy on a hunt that quickly goes awry. This look showed off the brilliant visual effects and mythical combat that the series is known for.
Shawn Layden then took to the stage to preview the games that were showcased during the event. First on this list was Days Gone, a post-apocalyptic game. This was followed by footage of the highly anticipated The Last Guardian, which received an official release date of October 25, 2016.
The tech-fantasy world of Horizon Zero Dawn was further explored with a new gameplay demo. An interesting take on the detective genre was explored in the form of Detroit: Become Human, which will allow players to take on the role of an android detective, who can search through a multitude of clues to instigate a number of outcomes, both tragic and satisfying, for his case.
Resident Evil VII: Biohazard was announced with a fully creepy cinematic trailer. Not only was a full demo made available immediately, full VR support was announced for this game. Furthermore, the PlayStation VR will make its debut in the United States on October 13, 2016. More than 50 games will be made available at launch, with several being displayed at the conference. Headlining this display was Impulse Games' Space-action VR title Far Point. The Star Wars Battlefront VR Mission and Rocksteady's Batman Arkham VR were also shown on the lineup. A Final Fantasy XV trailer, set to the electronic tunes of Afrojack, was revealed. with a release date of 9/30/2016, VR functionality was shown in the form of the Final Fantasy XV VR Experience.
More was seen of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare's sci-fi heavy design. A gameplay demonstration pictured the action of war as seen through a futuristic outer space. The official release date for this newest iteration of the franchise is stated as November 11, 2016. Added to this was footage of the remastered version of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, which will have a campaign that will be fully playable 30 days prior to launch for PS4 users.
Crash Bandicoot is back! The original Crash Bandicoot, Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back, and Crash Bandicoot: Warped will be remastered. Crash will also be placed into the world of Skylanders. The ability to customize from a variety of body and head options in order to create your very own Skylander was also revealed to appear in Skylanders Imaginators.
A new trailer for Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens played out with the expected comedy of a Lego game. As a surprising joy to many, the demo for this game was made immediately available, with the full game launching in two weeks.
Andy House welcomed Hideo Kokima to the stage. Kojima went on to reveal his new company's project, which featured the return of Norman Reedus to the video game industry. Though such an occurrence was rumored for some time, it was officially confirmed in the form of Death Stranding.
A new Insomniac Games developed Spiderman title was also revealed. While not much is known of the newest Spidey game, Sony has released a number of new updates including an increased amount of collaboration with Marvel.
The show closed with a demo of Days Gone, which featured gameplay that was similar to Naughty Dog's PlayStation hit, The Last of Us.
