The developers at Endnight Games Ltd have announced that their upcoming survival horror game, Sons Of The Forest, will launch in an Early Access state rather than a full release.
A game of this caliber takes time, as those of us who played The Forest know how important it is for the sequel to go above and beyond the original. Today, the devs announced that Sons Of The Forest will not be ready in time for a full release, and they are going to launch it into early access instead. They mention they did this so that the "release date" will remain the same, rather than push it back for further polish.
The first trailer for the game was released back in 2019 during The Game Awards, and since then we have seen some promising footage of what to expect from the release. The devs state that this is one of the most complex games they have ever worked on, and while it has been almost four years since the announcement of Sons Of The Forest, they will need more time to add the remaining mechanics, and items, as well as balance out the gameplay. While this may be slightly disappointing, it's better than a complete pushback on the release date in its entirety as they have done twice already.
The game was delayed for the first time with a release window of May 2022, then October 2022, and then it was finally pushed back to the February 23, 2023 date we have today. The reasoning behind those delays was the same, as the devs needed more time to give Sons of The Forest the final coat of paint. If the sequel is anything like its predecessor, one can only imagine what's to come. The Forest was a huge success after its release, not only due to the complexity of the game, but it was just fun to play, especially with friends. Not to mention the amount of popularity it gained once YouTuber MaddVladd began posting video tutorials on his channel The Outer Middle Show, showcasing the game.
Though Sons Of The Forest will release in Early Access, hopefully, it will be filled to the brim with content to enjoy during the interim prior to its full release.
