Everyone's favorite blue hedgehog will be racing for more than just golden rings in 2019 thanks to a partnership between SEGA and Paramount Pictures. Promising to bring together both live action and CG animation elements, a Sonic the Hedgehog movie is set for a theatrical release in the United States on November 15, 2019, then rolling out internationally shortly thereafter.

While the plot is (naturally) being kept a secret, the movie already has a few notable film industry veterans attached to it including Producer Neal H. Moritz from Original Film Inc. (known for the Fast and Furious series), Director Jeff Fowler from Blur Studio (Acadamy Award nominee for 2005 Best Animated Short Film Gopher Broke), and Executive producer Tim Miller (director of Deadpool and owner of Blur Studio).

Blur Studio, interestingly enough, was responsible for creating the remastered version of Halo 2's cutscenes, Halo Wars and Halo Wars 2's cutscenes, and the trailers for Star Wars: The Old Republic and the Batman: Arkham games. MARZA Animation Planet, a Japanese CGI Animation Studio owned by SEGA Group that worked on Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV and Resident Evil: Vendetta, will also be attached to the Sonic the Hedgehog movie, pretty much all but guaranteeing that the movie will, at the very least, look visually appealing.

“I am very honored that our companies, SEGA and MARZA, have this incredible opportunity to partner with Paramount Pictures for this production, which will bring Sonic to the big screen for the first time," said SEGA Holding Chairman and CEO Haruki Satomi. "Since he was first introduced to the world 26 years ago, Sonic has continued to grow in popularity as part of our core strategy to focus on video games. In additon to video games, this provides SEGA with a fantastic opportunity to share Sonic with everyone and we can't wait to reveal more to eager audiences in the future.”
