The first major Sonic Frontiers update of 2023 is on its way, bringing new content and features. The long-awaited Photo Mode is making its debut in this update, and you can also look forward to new challenge modes and a jukebox to let you play some of your favorite Sonic tunes.

Much of the content coming in this week's update was originally teased via the Sonic Frontiers roadmap, which debuted in November last year, but it's finally becoming a reality this week. First up is Photo Mode, which lets you pause Sonic Frontiers' gameplay and angle a shot however you want. You can add filters, too, so you can give your image exactly the vibe you need it to have.

As well as Photo Mode, the new update is also bringing extra challenge modes, which will test your Sonic skills. Cyber Space Challenge pits you against seven stages from the islands of Kronos, Ares, and Chaos, all while battling against the clock. Battle Rush, meanwhile, challenges you to defeat several waves of enemies within a time limit, with a "special surprise" waiting for you if you, uh, go fast while doing so.

You'd better brush up on your Sonic Frontiers if you want to beat its new challenge modes.

Lastly in this update, a new Jukebox will be added, allowing you to listen to music not only from Sonic Frontiers, but from past Sonic games too. Tracks include "I'm Here" from Sonic Frontiers, as well as fan favorites like Sonic Adventure 2's "Live & Learn" and Sonic Adventure's "Open Your Heart", both performed by Crush 40. 13 songs will be unlocked immediately, but you'll need to collect Sound Memories from islands in order to unlock the rest.

Sonic Frontiers is the latest game in the long-running Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. Released in November last year, the game has sold around 3 million copies across multiple platforms, and more content is on the way for it as well. You can pick it up right now on PC, PlayStation consoles, Xbox platforms, and Nintendo Switch. The new update will arrive on Wednesday at 7pm Eastern time, so make sure to download it as soon as it's available.
